Old school Team Fortress

Holy crap.

As a lot of people know, the first official trailers for Team Fortress 2 were released within the past few days. In a bit of nostalgia, I decided to see if I could find the intro for the original Team Fortress… and I don’t mean Team Fortress Classic, I mean the ORIGINAL mod for Quake. Sure enough, YouTube failed to disappoint. :-)

Just as a side bit of trivia: the music is “Ecce Gratum” from the Carmina burana. When I worked for Custom Computer Centers, the sales manager loved that intro. So, for his birthday, I picked him up a copy of the Carmina burana on CD. He didn’t realize why I got it for him until it got to the appropriate track… ;-)

Karma is a harsh mistress.

A CALIFORNIAN man who tried to kill his girlfriend by leaving her in a car parked across railway lines was himself killed when an oncoming train hurled the car into him as he fled.

His girlfriend survived, the Associated Press reported.

The man drove the car to the head of a line of traffic stopped at a level crossing in the San Fernando Valley neighbourhood of Sunland on Monday, police spokesman Mike Lopez said.

The man, who was seen arguing with the woman, then parked the car on the tracks and jumped out, leaving her behind, Mr Lopez said.

A 450-tonne commuter train hit the rear of the car, launching it into the man.

The girlfriend, who was injured , was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

“She gets hit by a train and lives. He gets hit by his own car and he dies,” Mr Lopez said.

So much for the business trip…

Well, this is fun. As I stated in the last entry, I was supposed to go out to Odessa today on a business trip. What neither my boss nor I realized when we scheduled the trip, however, was that I was leaving on the day of the annual stockholder’s meeting. It was quickly decided yesterday that I needed to be here for it instead of on the road, so I ended up rescheduling my flight and hotel for two weeks from now. Fun fun.

So, instead of being on a flight to Odessa right now, I’m sitting in a corner of the training room at the office, waiting for the stockholders’ meeting to start in an hour or so. I’m hoping everything ends up being uneventful, but with our luck if I HAD gone out of town, everything would have fallen apart and no one here would have quite known how to fix it. I had looked forward to this trip, but I easily admit it would have been problematic had I gone. Ah, well… I still have the one in two weeks to look forward to.

I did get to go out and unwind last night, though. Dave called me at around 3 PM asking if I wanted to meet for dinner and drinks somewhere, simply because it was his day off and he was bored out of his skull. I readily agreed; as soon as I was done with most of the preparations for the meeting last night, I made my way over to the Richmond Arms to meet Dave. For those who don’t know, Richmond Arms is a British pub over off Richmond Avenue. We ate, had a couple of beers (I had a pint of Guinness and a pint of Shiner Bock), and generally talked for a long while. Afterwards, I made my way home. All in all, it was a nice diversion from the usual weeknight humdrum (which does not include talking to Misty… heh).

Ah, well. I’ll just see how things go from here. On the bright side, as said earlier, it’s a three-day weekend… and I plan on going over to Cypress tomorrow to get myself out of the office (but not out of work) early. :-) Maybe Mom would want to meet at Red Robin for lunch… who knows. I guess we’ll see…
